A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 15.2-2288.2:1, relating to special use permits for camping.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-2288.2:1 as follows:

§15.2-2288.2:1. Localities shall not require a special use permit for camping.

No locality shall (i) require a special use permit or special exception for or (ii) prohibit the use by a landowner and his family or nonpaying guests of a tent or recreational vehicle (RV) on the landowner's private property for no more than two months in the aggregate during a calendar year. Any such use of a tent or RV shall comply with all applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding health, sanitation, noise, nuisances, minimum setbacks, and parking.
