A BILL to direct the Department of Health to provide information, resources, and education to food banks regarding outreach opportunities for providing assistance to individuals completing a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) application.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. That the Department of Health shall provide information, resources, and education to all food banks located within the Commonwealth regarding outreach opportunities for providing assistance to individuals completing an application for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

[ 2. That the provisions of the first enactment of this act shall become effective on July 1, 2025.

3. That the Department of Health shall explore strategies to support the outreach and education efforts for food banks in the Commonwealth pursuant to this act. Such strategies shall include (i) information about opportunities to create public-private partnerships, such as with the Federation of Virginia Food Banks; (ii) information on funding from all available federal channels for services to support education and outreach on the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); and (iii) recommendations on required resources for implementation of such identified strategies. The Department of Health shall report its findings and recommendations to the Chairmen of the Senate Committees on Finance and Appropriations and Education and Health and the House Committees on Appropriations and Health and Human Services by November 1, 2024. ]
