HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95
Celebrating the life of Julia Marie Ferguson Cecil.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 11, 2013

WHEREAS, Julia Marie Ferguson Cecil, a devoted mother and grandmother who proudly served her country during World War II and made scenic Giles County her home for several decades, died on November 11, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Dickson, Tennessee, Julia Cecil was born on January 13, 1923, to Fred Fisher Ferguson and Sarah Lee Stenson Ferguson and grew up with her three sisters; and

WHEREAS, as a young woman, Julia Cecil trained to become a nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, as the United States entered World War II, Julia Cecil joined the United States Navy Nurse Corps, providing compassionate and skilled care to those in need to aid in the war effort; and

WHEREAS, following her exemplary service, Julia Cecil returned to civilian life and married Dr. William Cecil; the young couple relocated to Pearisburg in 1955; and

WHEREAS, Julia Cecil immersed herself in family and community affairs, raising four active sons and enjoying fellowship and worship at the Holy Family Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, William, Julia Cecil will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, William III, John, Fred, Tony, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of Giles County, Julia Marie Ferguson Cecil; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Julia Marie Ferguson Cecil as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
