WHEREAS, Barnabas Stiltner, a retired law-enforcement officer, talented musician, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather in Grundy, died on January 11, 2024; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, Barnabas "Barney" Stiltner was born in Grundy to the late Randolph and Oria Stiltner; and
WHEREAS, Barney Stiltner served his country as a member of the United States Army, then returned to the Commonwealth, where he safeguarded his fellow Grundy residents with the Grundy Police Department for 34 years; and
WHEREAS, Barney Stiltner was a talented musician and vocalist throughout his life, and he shared his gifts with others as the host of a local music show on Saturday nights; and
WHEREAS, Barney Stiltner also enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community at Grundy Bible Church; and
WHEREAS, Barney Stiltner relished every opportunity to spend time with family and friends and imparted his lifetime of wisdom to his daughter and grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Barney Stiltner will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his devoted wife of 40 years, Mary Ellen; his daughter, Marilyn, and her family; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Barnabas Stiltner, a highly admired former police officer and active member of the Grundy community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Barnabas Stiltner as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
