Commending the Omicron Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Omicron Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a local chapter of the first intercollegiate historically African-American sorority in the United States that serves the Greater Prince William County community, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Chi Omega chapter traces its origins to August 26, 1984, shortly after the 51st International Convention of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Washington, D.C., when five women from Prince William County, Rosyln Dunn, Venus Miller, Jannette Smithson, Alice Taylor, and Mary Williams, met to share an interest in starting a new local chapter for the sorority; and

WHEREAS, on May 19, 1985, under the leadership of Barbara W. Davis, the Mid-Atlantic regional director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Omicron Chi Omega Chapter was officially chartered, with Alice Taylor serving as president and Vivian Oliver serving as vice president; and

WHEREAS, over the past several decades, the Omicron Chi Omega chapter has received various recognitions at the local and state level for its dynamic and impactful support of programs and services promoting education, health, and well-being; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Chi Omega chapter's current initiatives are dedicated to strengthening the sisterhood, empowering families, building economic wealth, enhancing the environment, advocating for social justice and connection, and uplifting the local community; and

WHEREAS, as a result of the extraordinary efforts of its members, the Omicron Chi Omega chapter has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives in Prince William County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Omicron Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Omicron Chi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to Prince William County and the Commonwealth.
