WHEREAS, Jay Hart, an esteemed radio news reporter, has dedicated 40 years to informing listeners in communities across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a Virginia native, Jay Hart earned a bachelor's degree in 1990 from Old Dominion University, where he fostered his interest in a career in broadcast journalism; and

WHEREAS, Jay Hart has worked at all levels of local radio news coverage, including seven years in Hampton Roads, 25 years in Richmond, and eight years in Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, Jay Hart has been on the scene to cover a number of significant events in Virginia history, including the 1989 Greekfest riot in Virginia Beach, the historic election of Governor L. Douglas Wilder, and the unveiling of the Arthur Ashe statue in Richmond as well as the sports icon's death and funeral; and

WHEREAS, Jay Hart currently serves as news director at the Charlottesville Radio Group, and he played a pivotal role in the coverage of major moments affecting the city in recent years, such as the Unite the Right rally in 2017 and the shooting incident at the University of Virginia in 2022; and

WHEREAS, recognizing an informed citizenry to be the foundation of our democracy, Jay Hart has provided an invaluable service to his community and is deserving of the respect and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Jay Hart hereby be commended for his tireless efforts over the past 40 years to communicate the current news of the day to his listeners; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jay Hart as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for his contributions to the Commonwealth.
