WHEREAS, Larry Eugene Chavis, an accomplished businessman, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Richmond community, died on April 29, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Larry Chavis worked tirelessly as the owner of a family trucking company, Chavis Transfer, Inc., contributing greatly to the success and prosperity of his clients; and

WHEREAS, Larry Chavis faithfully served the citizens of Richmond for six years as the District 8 representative on the Richmond City Council, including a term as vice mayor from 1992 to 1994 and a term as mayor from 1996 to 1998; and

WHEREAS, Larry Chavis will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his brother, Charles; his niece, Kellie; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Larry Eugene Chavis, a treasured member of the Richmond community whose service and dedication made an impact on countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Larry Eugene Chavis as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
