WHEREAS, Maureen Boland, an esteemed educator and education administrator who dedicated 30 years to Fairfax County Public Schools and who served the past 13 years as principal of Rolling Valley Elementary School, retired in July 2023; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Maureen Boland cultivated her expertise as an educator and education administrator by earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, a master's degree from George Mason University, and a doctoral degree from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Boland embarked upon her noble career in education as a teacher at Mantua Elementary School and thereafter served as an instructional coach at Annandale Terrace Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Boland moved into education administration as the assistant principal of Haycock Elementary School in 2003 and was promoted to principal of that school three years later; and

WHEREAS, from July 2009 through July 2023, Maureen Boland faithfully served as principal of Rolling Valley Elementary School, contributing greatly to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of her students and to the growth and development of her staff; and

WHEREAS, throughout her tenure, Maureen Boland maintained an open-door policy for students and staff and implemented a student advisory council to hear concerns and ideas, while also fostering strong and productive relationships with parents, families, and community members; and

WHEREAS, with great passion for her students and her school, Maureen Boland was a constant presence at school and community events, including the West Springfield Pyramid Challenge, All County Choral Festival, Ballin' with Buddies, Special Education Olympics, Rolling Valley Haunted House, and Rolling Valley Bingo activities; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Boland built a collaborative and supportive culture at Rolling Valley Elementary School that motivated her staff to flourish in their roles as educators and to pursue new innovations and initiatives in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Boland supported the aspirations of current educators seeking roles as education administrators by teaching educational leadership classes at the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Boland embodied the selflessness that is at the core of all great educators and brought a sense of joy and purpose to the halls of Rolling Valley Elementary School each and every day, making a difference in countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Maureen Boland, a distinguished educator and education administrator and longtime principal of Rolling Valley Elementary School, hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Maureen Boland as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
