HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 574
Celebrating the life of Ira Joseph Kaylin.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, May 30, 2018

WHEREAS, Ira Joseph Kaylin, a former member of the Falls Church City Council who was respected for his financial expertise and commitment to service, died on March 12, 2018; and

WHEREAS, a native of New York City, Ira Kaylin grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and relocated to the Washington, D.C., area in 1964; he graduated from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon; and

WHEREAS, Ira Kaylin served the nation for 10 years at the United States Department of the Treasury, then joined the Inter-American Development Bank, where he held several leadership positions over the course of his 24-year career; and

WHEREAS, Ira Kaylin served on the Falls Church City Council from July 2010 to December 2013; he was a staunch advocate for children and vulnerable members of the community and provided keen insights on the city's budget preparation, financial strategies, and spending policies; and

WHEREAS, Ira Kaylin also used his professional expertise to represent the residents of Falls Church before the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Development Policy Committee and Transportation Planning Board; and

WHEREAS, a man of broad intellect and deep convictions, Ira Kaylin was a trusted friend and mentor to many people, respected for his integrity, honesty, and generosity; and

WHEREAS, Ira Kaylin will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, Patricia; his sons, Robert and James; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ira Joseph Kaylin, a respected leader in the Falls Church community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ira Joseph Kaylin as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
