HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 556
Commending Liam McGranaghan.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, August 17, 2015

WHEREAS, Liam McGranaghan, an environmental science teacher at Loudoun Valley High School, received a 2015 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators; and

WHEREAS, the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators is presented by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the White House, and the Council for Environmental Quality; Liam McGranaghan is one of 20 teachers from around the country to receive the award in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Liam McGranaghan holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master's degree from George Mason University; he is a respected authority on raptors and amphibians; and

WHEREAS, with 26 years of experience in education, Liam McGranaghan has inspired and motivated students in Loudoun County for 20 years, including 15 years at Loudoun Valley High School; and

WHEREAS, Liam McGranaghan helped establish one of the largest high school environmental science programs in the county at Loudoun Valley High School; he supplements classroom learning with outdoor activities and currently teaches seven courses; and

WHEREAS, Liam McGranaghan and his students have served the community by establishing riparian buffers along a local stream, transforming a dry pond into a wetlands habitat, and planting near a stormwater pond; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Liam McGranaghan hereby be commended on receiving a 2015 Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Liam McGranaghan as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his commitment to the youth of the Loudoun County community.
