HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 526
Commending Otto Davis.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 17, 2018

WHEREAS, Otto Davis, the founder of the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council, received the Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award from the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution for his work to support his fellow veterans in the region; and

WHEREAS, the Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award is presented at the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution's state conference to recognize exceptional volunteers such as Otto Davis for their leadership, patriotism, and community service; and

WHEREAS, a Vietnam veteran and a Purple Heart recipient, Otto Davis founded the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council in 2015 after he learned about a wheelchair-bound veteran who could not afford to travel for treatments; and

WHEREAS, in addition to providing free transportation for medical appointments, the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council has expanded to provide information, support, and many other services to many local veterans; Otto Davis has generously dedicated more than 3,000 hours of his time and driven more than 10,000 miles each year; and

WHEREAS, Otto Davis also helped organize the Piedmont Area Veterans Council and an empowerment program for military women; he is a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Lynchburg Chapter 196, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Legion; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Otto Davis hereby be commended on receiving the Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Otto Davis as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his work to support and enhance the lives of veterans in Lynchburg and the surrounding area.
