Commending the Grayson County High School football team.

WHEREAS, the Grayson County High School football team won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state semifinal at Rye Cove High School in Clinchport on December 7, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Grayson County High School Blue Devils defeated the Rye Cove High School Eagles by a score of 40–34 and advanced to the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship for the first time in program history; and
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Blue Devils trailed 7–22 in the second quarter but mounted an impressive comeback to surprise the previously undefeated Rye Cove Eagles; and
WHEREAS, the Grayson County Blue Devils' victory was a total team effort, led by quarterback Maverik Goad, who threw for four touchdowns and 283 yards while also rushing for two touchdowns and 66 yards; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Grayson County Blue Devils is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Grayson County High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Grayson County High School football team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 1 state semifinal; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stephen James, head coach of the Grayson County High School football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
