HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 464
Commending the Reverend Dr. Carl N. Sherrill and Jacquelyn Sherrill.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, for 10 years, the Reverend Dr. Carl N. Sherrill and Jacquelyn Sherrill have greatly served their congregation and community as the pastor and leading lady of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, guided daily by their faith, Carl and Jacquelyn Sherrill are lifetime members of Mount Zion Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Carl Sherrill has provided the congregation at Mount Zion Baptist Church with inspirational spiritual guidance while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through various endeavors, including by supporting the E. Palmer Supermarket in the Berkley section of Norfolk and by assisting unhoused individuals in need; and
WHEREAS, Carl Sherrill supports local faith communities and their leaders as a member of the Tidewater Metro Ministers' Conference and recently played an instrumental role in honoring the Reverend Dr. Charles Hart, former pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, who led the congregation for more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, as the leading lady at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Jacquelyn Sherrill spearheads a number of the church's charitable hospitality initiatives; she also serves as a deaconess and youth leader, helping many in her congregation grow in their faith; and
WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Sherrill is a dedicated staff member at the Southside STEM Academy at Campostella in Norfolk, where she works tirelessly to nurture her students' academic, social, and emotional well-being; and
WHEREAS, through their leadership and service, Carl and Jacquelyn Sherrill have made a profound and lasting impact at Mount Zion Baptist Church and in the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Dr. Carl N. Sherrill and Jacquelyn Sherrill hereby be commended for their legacy of service as the leaders of Mount Zion Baptist Church; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. Carl N. Sherrill and Jacquelyn Sherrill as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their contributions to Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
