WHEREAS, Norfolk Botanical Garden, a beloved institution that offers a captivating escape into nature across 175 acres of meticulously and naturally crafted landscapes, celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2023; and
WHEREAS, established in 1938 as Azalea Garden, Norfolk Botanical Garden was renamed the Norfolk Municipal Gardens in 1955 to reflect the city's support for the endeavor and three years later assumed its current name under the management of the Old Dominion Horticultural Society; and
WHEREAS, with over 65 distinct collections, Norfolk Botanical Garden offers upwards of 500,000 visitors each year a plethora of ways to immerse themselves in the beauty and biodiversity of this renowned botanical haven; and
WHEREAS, highlights of Norfolk Botanical Garden include themed gardens like its vibrant Rose Garden and the tranquil Japanese Garden, which showcase diverse flora from around the globe; and
WHEREAS, Norfolk Botanical Garden is deeply committed to serving the community and regularly provides educational experiences for visitors of all ages, including programs, classes, and lectures; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Norfolk Botanical Garden are made possible by the unwavering support of its dedicated volunteers, who devote more than 15,000 hours to the institution each year; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of its status as one of the premier botanical gardens in the nation, Norfolk Botanical Garden, an accredited museum, was voted by the public #3 through Newsweek in 2024 for Best Botanical Garden in the United States as part of its Readers' Choice Awards; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Norfolk Botanical Garden hereby be commended for its achievements in service to the Norfolk community and nature lovers the world over; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Norfolk Botanical Garden as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the institution's contributions to Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
