WHEREAS, the Tamil Nadu Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering the underserved in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu through education, women's programs, rural development, and health and hygiene initiatives, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF) was founded in 1974 by a group of Tamil Americans who wanted to develop ways to support people in need in their native state of Tamil Nadu; and
WHEREAS, today, there are nearly 30 chapters of the Tamil Nadu Foundation in the United States, including a chapter serving the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, which hosted the organization's 42nd National Convention in May 2016; and
WHEREAS, the Tamil Nadu Foundation seeks to enrich the educational, social, economic, and cultural status of individuals and families in need by establishing educational scholarships, providing technical journals and other educational resources, offering emergency assistance, and acting on a variety of worthy causes impacting Tamil Nadu; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, TNF has assisted nearly a half million beneficiaries through more than a thousand projects, including nearly 100,000 students empowered through the organization's ABC Project, which is designed to help students achieve grade-level proficiency and build confidence and morale; and
WHEREAS, to commemorate its 50th anniversary, the TNF is organizing its Golden Jubilee Celebrations from May 24–26, 2024, at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, Illinois, which will feature many Tamil cultural performances and other attractions to honor and celebrate this important and joyous occasion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Tamil Nadu Foundation hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Tamil Nadu Foundation as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's mission and achievements.
