WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court has offered programs to support families and youths transitioning through the juvenile justice and child welfare systems; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court traces its roots to 1993 when the director of the Juvenile Court Services Unit envisioned a role for volunteers in the unit's work with youth and families; and
WHEREAS, the program was so successful that Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court was established as an independent entity the following year; as its services grew, the need for staff became apparent, leading the organization to file for nonprofit status; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court hired its first executive director; over the following years, the organization supported the creation of Portsmouth Court Appointed Special Advocates, the Community Service Program, and other vital initiatives; and
WHEREAS, over time, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court's programs and services have evolved in response to the changing needs of the Portsmouth community, but it has remained true to its core mission to make a positive difference in the lives of young people and their families; and
WHEREAS, Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court has built strong relationships with a wide range of community partners, and some of Portsmouth's most respected civic leaders have served on its board of directors over the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court hereby be commended for its decades of service to young people in Portsmouth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Court as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's legacy of achievements.
