WHEREAS, Scott K. York, who has ably served the people of Loudoun County for more than two decades, retires as chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in 2015, ending a career in public service that has spanned 25 years; and WHEREAS, Scott York's tenure in Loudoun County government began in 1991 when he became the Sterling District's representative to the Loudoun County Planning Commission; in 1995, he was elected to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors; and WHEREAS, Scott York was elected chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in 1999 and was reelected chair in 2003, 2007, and 2011; he is a member of the board of supervisors' Finance, Government Services and Operations Committee, the Economic Development Committee, and the Transportation and Land Use Committee; and WHEREAS, Scott York has represented the citizens of Loudoun County in many regional organizations, including the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Board of Directors, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, where he is chair of the Finance Committee, and numerous other boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, additionally, Scott York has been a member of the board of directors of the Virginia Association of Counties, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, the Route 28 Transportation Improvement District Commission, and he is chair of the Dulles Corridor Advisory Committee; and WHEREAS, among the accomplishments that have occurred during Scott York's service on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors are many transportation enhancements throughout the county and a renewed emphasis on economic development; he also has worked to preserve Loudoun's scenic countryside, especially in the western portion of the county; and WHEREAS, during Scott York's tenure on the board of supervisors, Loudoun County has been one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, and he is proud of the area's vibrant, diverse, and growing rural economy; business investment in the county—especially the data center industry—also has increased; and WHEREAS, Scott York especially appreciates the work of the dedicated and professional staff of the Loudoun County government, whose efforts, combined with the work of the board of supervisors, continue to make Loudoun County an attractive destination to families and businesses; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Scott K. York hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement in 2015 for his dedicated service as a member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for almost two decades, including serving as chair for 15 years; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott K. York as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect and admiration for his tireless work on behalf of the people of Loudoun County and the Commonwealth. |
