WHEREAS, Martha Ann McCroskey Groves, a native of Benhams and the longtime owner of Misty's Florist in the Tri-Cities, a woman of faith, and a devoted wife and mother, died on October 29, 2014; and WHEREAS, Martha Groves grew up on a family farm in Washington County and opened Misty's Florist in 1980; she delighted in greeting everyone who entered the business and was determined to provide outstanding customer service; and WHEREAS, under Martha Groves' careful supervision, Misty's Florist won many awards, including being named "Best Florist" in the Tri-Cities several times; the company also was named Florist of the Year and was recognized by Teleflora, a floral wire service company, for recording the most sales nationally; and WHEREAS, in August 2014, Martha Groves expanded her business operations by opening a second florist shop, in Abingdon; and WHEREAS, Martha Groves was a supporter and honorary member of the Future Farmers of America chapter at John S. Battle High School in Washington County; she enjoyed spending time with the students and attended the club's annual banquet each year; and WHEREAS, companionship and family were dear to Martha Groves and she especially enjoyed playing Rook with friends and loved ones; she was a woman of faith who was a charter member of Franklin Chapel; and WHEREAS, Martha Groves will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Deborah, Elmer, and Robert, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Martha Ann McCroskey Groves, owner of Misty's Florist in the Tri-Cities, a woman of faith, and a devoted wife and mother; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Martha Ann McCroskey Groves as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory. |
