WHEREAS, the Isle of Wight Academy football team capped off an outstanding season by winning the 2015 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division IV championship; and WHEREAS, the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers defeated a talented team from Roanoke Catholic School 33 - 16 in the title game, which was held on November 20, 2015; the Roanoke Catholic Celtics traveled more than 210 miles to face the Chargers on their home field in Isle of Wight; and WHEREAS, at the end of the first half, the Roanoke Catholic football team led 8 - 7, but the Chargers, who had dominated their last 10 opponents during the regular season, regained momentum in the second half; and WHEREAS, the weeks of practice and conditioning began to pay off for the Isle of Wight football team; an outstanding defensive effort in the last two quarters energized the team; the offense followed suit, scoring each time the Chargers had the ball; and WHEREAS, the victory for the Isle of Wight Chargers continues the school's tradition of football excellence; the 2015 win is its sixth state championship and is also a tribute to head coach Dale Chapman, who has led the team to nine state championship games during his 23-year tenure; and WHEREAS, the members of the Isle of Wight Academy football team received strong and enthusiastic support throughout the season from the coaching staff and from their families, friends, fans, and the entire school community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Isle of Wight Academy football team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division IV championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dale Chapman, head coach of the Isle of Wight Academy football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the football team's outstanding performance and championship season. |
