WHEREAS, James Carter Lambert, a businessman, farmer, and respected member of the community in Southwest Virginia, died on November 26, 2015; and WHEREAS, a native of Dickenson County, Carter Lambert joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to the nation during World War II as a member of the United States Navy; and WHEREAS, Carter Lambert courageously participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle of World War II and one of the largest in history; he was stationed on the island of Okinawa at the end of the war; and WHEREAS, after the war, Carter Lambert returned home to the Commonwealth and founded McClure River Coal Company, which he operated until retiring to his cattle farm in Washington County; and WHEREAS, Carter Lambert also served the community as a board member at Highlands Union Bank, and he was a 32nd degree mason with Abingdon Masonic Lodge No. 48; and WHEREAS, Carter Lambert will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Beulah "Boots"; children, Sharon, Nick, and Deborah, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Carter Lambert; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Carter Lambert as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory. |
