WHEREAS, the Spirit of Freedom marching band, the marching band of Freedom High School in Woodbridge, has earned a reputation as one of Northern Virginia's premier multicultural high stepping marching bands; and
WHEREAS, featuring brass, woodwind, and percussion sections, plus a color guard, the Spirit of Freedom is known for its dynamic and engaging performances at home football games and competitions; and
WHEREAS, with more than 150 members, the Spirit of Freedom represents one of the largest and most popular co-curricular activities at Freedom High School; and
WHEREAS, the Spirit of Freedom was notably one of only two high school bands that performed during the inauguration of Governor Ralph Northam in 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Spirit of Freedom helps students develop confidence and self-esteem, positive and cooperative attitudes, and self-discipline, while offering the rare experience of performing in a great band in front of a legion of enthusiastic fans; and
WHEREAS, the students involved with the Spirit of Freedom live and breathe their pursuit, as they learn what rewards are possible through effort, discipline, and dedication; and
WHEREAS, the Spirit of Freedom has molded many of its members into leaders of their generation, preparing them for success both in the classroom and into the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Spirit of Freedom marching band of Freedom High School in Woodbridge hereby be commended for achieving its reputation as one of Northern Virginia's premier multicultural high stepping marching bands; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas Thorogood, band director of the Spirit of Freedom marching band, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the group's achievements.
