Commending Susan Ratz.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2026

WHEREAS, Susan Ratz, a passionate educator at B.M. Williams Elementary School, was selected as the 2026 Chesapeake Public Schools Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, for six years, Susan “Sue” Ratz has served students in kindergarten through fifth grade as an English learner teacher and as a member of the Therapy Support Team, ensuring that every student feels supported and valued; and

WHEREAS, Sue Ratz is a dedicated advocate for student success, striving to remove barriers to learning by partnering with families, collaborating closely with colleagues to develop innovative strategies, and connecting students with essential resources; and

WHEREAS, Sue Ratz is a trusted mentor to students and a proactive leader in education who represents the best of her profession and upholds the values and mission of Chesapeake Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Sue Ratz previously earned the 2025 Ambassador of Kindness Award from the Virginia Department of Education for her tireless efforts to uplift others and build a sense of community between students, faculty, staff, and families; and

WHEREAS, as the winner of the Chesapeake Public Schools Teacher of the Year award, Sue Ratz will represent the community at the state level as a nominee for the Virginia Teacher of the Year award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Susan Ratz hereby be commended on the occasion of her selection as the 2026 Chesapeake Public Schools Teacher of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Susan Ratz as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her commitment to helping young people achieve their fullest potential.
