Commending Shelia Lawson.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, Shelia Lawson, a school bus driver in Woolwine, has played an important role in the lives of young people, ensuring they travel to and from school safely while setting a good example through her kindness and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, a native of Rocky Mount, Shelia "Cookie" Lawson grew up on her family's farm and learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age; she enjoyed working outdoors with her father and especially enjoyed riding the tractor; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Franklin County High School, Cookie Lawson began work in Bassett, where she met her husband, Ed; the couple ultimately settled in Patrick County and built a house near Fairy Stone State Park; and

WHEREAS, Cookie Lawson began her career at Woolwine Elementary School as a cafeteria worker and later started driving a school bus for additional pay; when her sons reached school age, she began driving the bus full-time; and

WHEREAS, Cookie Lawson's lifetime of driving skills helped her to ensure students reached their destinations safely and efficiently; she played a special role in generations of young people's lives through her kindness, attentiveness, and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, outside of her career, Cookie Lawson has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to enhancing community life; she delivered handmade pies to a local nursing home for many years and always found a way to help a friend or neighbor in need; and

WHEREAS, guided by her faith in all her good deeds, Cookie Lawson enjoys fellowship and worship with the congregation of Christian Faith Baptist Church in Ferrum, where she is a member of the choir and volunteers her time with other ministries; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Shelia Lawson hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as a bus driver for Woolwine Elementary School after 50 years of service to the community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Shelia Lawson as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her decades of outstanding service to young people in Woolwine.
