WHEREAS, the 2012 Lake Braddock High School girls' cross country team triumphed as the Virginia High School League Group AAA state champions; and WHEREAS, at the state meet, held at the Great Meadows course on November 10, 2012, the Lake Braddock Bruins bested the competition by a decisive 54 points; and WHEREAS, senior Sophie Chase, reigning Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Athlete of the Year, won her second state championship, posting an extraordinary time of 17:24, and went on to place sixth in the 2012 girls' national championship; and WHEREAS, with Hannah Christen winning third place, Katie Roche winning sixth place, Katy Kunc winning 18th place, and Misha Suresh winning 38th place, the team earned three all-state honors and the school's second Group AAA team championship in four years; and WHEREAS, the Lake Braddock Bruins' remarkable victory is a credit to the determination and talent shown by each member of the team, the inspiring leadership of head coach Michael Mangan and his fellow coaches, and the invaluable and unrelenting support of the athletes' families, Lake Braddock High School, and the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lake Braddock High School girls' cross country team hereby be commended on its victory in the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to the 2012 Lake Braddock High School girls' cross country team and to Michael Mangan, head coach of the team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations for a triumphant season. |
