WHEREAS, the Abingdon High School golf team capped off a stellar season by winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship with a score of 608 points; and WHEREAS, the talented golfers from Abingdon High School defeated the current state champion, Hidden Valley High School, by 16 shots to claim the state title on October 13, 2015, at Abingdon High School's home course at Glenrochie Country Club; and WHEREAS, the 2015 state title was up for grabs at the start of the second day of the tournament as Abingdon High School and Hidden Valley High School were tied, but the Abingdon Falcons soon pulled ahead and took the lead; and WHEREAS, the victory was a challenging one for the Abingdon High School team; on the second day of the tournament all golfers faced stiff competition and stiff winds on the course, with gusts well over 25 miles per hour, forcing contestants to even more carefully consider each shot; and WHEREAS, the tenacious and motivated golfers from Abingdon High School stayed focused despite the unfavorable weather; coach Jason Delp and assistant coach Nick Viers helped the players adapt to the challenging conditions; and WHEREAS, the members of the Abingdon High School 2015 state championship golf team are Bryce Addison, Drake Clevinger, Connor Creasy, Gunnar Dowell, Titus Dowell, Laeth Ratliff, Seth Roark, Andrew Spiegler, and Emily Stinson; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Abingdon High School golf team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jason Delp, coach of the Abingdon High School golf team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the team's outstanding accomplishment and championship season. |
