Commending Mary Katherine Greenlaw.

WHEREAS, in May 2012, Mary Katherine Greenlaw made history as the first woman elected mayor of the City of Fredericksburg, demonstrating exceptional leadership up to her retirement from the position in December 2023; and

WHEREAS, Mary Greenlaw's dedicated service on the Fredericksburg Planning Commission, and as an at-large member of the Fredericksburg City Council prior to her mayoral tenure, significantly contributed to the city's governance; and

WHEREAS, Mary Greenlaw's active participation in numerous civic events, including 178 ribbon-cutting ceremonies, and her delivery of more than 200 speeches, exemplified her commitment to community engagement; and

WHEREAS, Mary Greenlaw's involvement in various city boards and commissions, notably the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, Healthy Generations Area Agency on Aging, and the Fredericksburg Arts Commission, showcased her dedication to diverse aspects of city life; and

WHEREAS, Mary Greenlaw's staunch support for and active participation in sister city organizations enhanced Fredericksburg's international relations and cultural exchange; and

WHEREAS, under Mary Greenlaw's leadership, Fredericksburg achieved significant milestones, including the Fredericksburg City Council's 2036 Vision Statement, the enhancement of city infrastructure and quality of life, the establishment of new civic amenities, and adept navigation through challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and social unrest; and

WHEREAS, Mary Greenlaw played a pivotal role in bringing the Fredericksburg Nationals baseball team to the city, fostering community spirit and economic growth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mary Katherine Greenlaw hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as mayor of Fredericksburg for her exemplary leadership, tireless service, and lasting contributions to the City of Fredericksburg and its residents; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Katherine Greenlaw as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to the City of Fredericksburg and to the Commonwealth.
