WHEREAS, Mark DeWayne Moseley, a former professional football player who has dedicated himself to community service and civic leadership in the Shenandoah Valley, received the prestigious Silver Medal for Citizenship from the Colonel James Wood, II Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Mark Moseley began playing in the National Football League (NFL) in 1970 and enjoyed a long and successful tenure with the Washington Commanders, then known as the Washington Redskins, from 1974 to 1986; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, Mark Moseley became the first ever placekicker to win the Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award and helped lead the team to victory in Super Bowl XVII; the following season, he led the league in scoring with an incredible 161 points; and
WHEREAS, after retiring from professional football, Mark Moseley owned several restaurants in Virginia, then worked as the director of franchising for Five Guys; throughout his life, he has been guided by a desire to help others and has supported numerous charitable causes and service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Mark Moseley has volunteered his time and leadership to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Students Against Destructive Decisions, the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way, and the American Heart Association, among others; and
WHEREAS, along with his former coach, Joe Gibbs, Mark Moseley supports Youth for Tomorrow, which provides behavioral health services to children and adults; he is also an active fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House; and
WHEREAS, Mark Moseley has been a champion for youth athletics and announces a high school football game of the week every Friday in Middletown; and
WHEREAS, Mark Moseley frequently participates in parades and community events in Middletown and throughout the region, and he made significant contributions to the Winchester Model Railroad Club's train station rebuild project; and
WHEREAS, Mark Moseley has significantly enhanced the quality of life in Middletown and the Shenandoah Valley through his kindness, generosity, and dedication to servant-leadership; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mark DeWayne Moseley hereby be commended for receiving the Silver Medal for Citizenship from the Colonel James Wood, II Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Moseley as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley and the Commonwealth.
