WHEREAS, after a distinguished 40-year career in nursing, Donna D. Gammon, RN, BSN, retired as the student health coordinator for Virginia Commonwealth University's MCV Campus; and
WHEREAS, Donna Gammon graduated from what is now Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse in 1983, then joined what is now Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health; and
WHEREAS, while working as a clinical nurse in neurosurgery, Donna Gammon earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Harold F. Young Center for Neurosurgery, during which time she also founded the Brain Tumor Support Group in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Donna Gammon subsequently worked in private practice in neurosurgery for a decade, and her Brain Tumor Support Group continues to serve brain tumor patients and their families, promote awareness of brain tumor issues, and advocate for brain tumor research; and
WHEREAS, in the latter half of her career, Donna Gammon worked as a student health nurse at The College of William & Mary and then returned to VCU, where she took charge of the student health center on the MCV Campus and treated a variety of illnesses and conditions for health sciences students; and
WHEREAS, Donna Gammon exemplified the compassion and dedication to duty of the nursing profession and earned the admiration of patients and colleagues alike for her kindness and expertise; and
WHEREAS, Donna Gammon touched countless lives over the course of her long and fulfilling career, serving the Richmond community with integrity and distinction; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Donna D. Gammon, RN, BSN, hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donna D. Gammon, RN, BSN, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her personal and professional achievements.
