WHEREAS, Ramon Earl Chalkley III, an esteemed attorney, retired from his position as Commonwealth's Attorney of Hanover County in 2023 after serving in that role for more than 15 years; and
WHEREAS, after earning bachelor's degrees in history and political science in 1973 and a juris doctorate in 1976 from the University of Richmond, Ramon Earl "Trip" Chalkley III embarked upon his legal career by entering private practice; and
WHEREAS, Trip Chalkley then served as an assistant attorney for the Commonwealth in Richmond from 1978 to 1979 and in the County of Hanover from 1980 to 1983, aiding the prosecution of cases in these localities; and
WHEREAS, Trip Chalkley returned to private practice from 1984 to 2007, where he focused primarily on criminal defense, before he was elected to serve as Commonwealth's Attorney of Hanover County in 2007; and
WHEREAS, as the minister of justice in Hanover County, Trip Chalkley oversaw the prosecution of criminal cases and other aspects of the judicial process for the locality, including restitution for victims of crimes, while also advising law-enforcement agencies operating within the county; and
WHEREAS, Trip Chalkley has maintained membership with several professional organizations over the years to enhance his credentials as an attorney and prosecutor, including the Virginia State Bar, the Hanover County Bar Association, the Virginia Association of Commonwealth's Attorneys, and the National District Attorneys Association; and
WHEREAS, Trip Chalkley has embodied the ideals and virtues of the legal profession while serving as Commonwealth's Attorney of Hanover County, helping to make the locality a safer and more just place for all; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ramon Earl Chalkley III hereby be commended for his service as Commonwealth's Attorney of Hanover County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ramon Earl Chalkley III as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes in his future endeavors.
