WHEREAS, Daniel F. Meier, an educator in Fairfax County, will retire as the principal of Robinson Secondary School in 2013; and WHEREAS, Daniel "Dan" Meier has served in public education for 35 years as a teacher, athletics coach, guidance counselor, assistant principal, middle school principal, and secondary school principal; and WHEREAS, Dan Meier currently serves as the principal of Robinson Secondary School, the largest public school in the Commonwealth; in 2012 Robinson Secondary School was ranked as one of the top 100 schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report; and WHEREAS, Dan Meier has served as the president of the Fairfax County Public Schools High School Principals Association, which includes principals from 30 schools; he has been honored as the top-rated principal by the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers six times; and WHEREAS, as the chair of the Virginia High School League Northern Region Council, Dan Meier has been active in the promotion of student athletics and also served as a football coach for 16 years; and WHEREAS, Dan Meier led his football teams to three Virginia state championships, earned the Virginia Coach of the Year award three times, and was honored by the Touchdown Club of Washington, D.C., with its Timmie Award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Daniel F. Meier on the occasion of his retirement as the principal of Robinson Secondary School; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daniel F. Meier as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his service to the community. |
