WHEREAS, Snow Creek Elementary School in Franklin County was honored as a National Title I Distinguished School for 2015 - 2016; and WHEREAS, the National Association of State Title I Directors recognized Snow Creek Elementary School in Penhook for its students' outstanding success in exceeding all federal benchmarks for increasing achievement in reading and mathematics for two consecutive years; and WHEREAS, the goal of Title I of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act is to increase the achievement of students who have been identified as being at risk of academic failure; the act also requires states to set goals for schools for increasing student achievement on statewide tests; and WHEREAS, Snow Creek Elementary School earned full state accreditation for two consecutive years and the pupils also performed well on state assessments in reading and mathematics during the 2014 - 2015 school year; and WHEREAS, the students and staff at Snow Creek Elementary School continue to set high standards for themselves, and are proud of their accomplishments; the tireless work of the teachers and the strong support of the community also contributed to the school's success; and WHEREAS, Snow Creek Elementary School received another outstanding recognition; it was honored as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education—one of the highest honors that a school can receive for its students' academic achievement; and WHEREAS, the students and staff at Snow Creek Elementary School are committed to educational excellence; the school encourages students to do their best in all areas, knowing that many pupils must overcome great obstacles in their determination to excel; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Snow Creek Elementary School for being named a National Title I Distinguished School for 2015 - 2016; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ken Grindstaff, principal of Snow Creek Elementary School, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for the school's hard work and outstanding achievement. |
