WHEREAS, Patricia Ann Keller Douglas, a respected leader in the Southwest Virginia farming community, retired from the Virginia Angus Association; and WHEREAS, a native of North Dakota, Patricia "Patty" Ann Keller Douglas grew up on her family's grain, hog, and cattle farm, learning the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age; and WHEREAS, Patty Douglas attended Concordia College in Minnesota, where she met her future husband, Garfield; the couple honeymooned in the Commonwealth, visiting Kinloch Farm in Fauquier County and Lee's Hill Angus in Fredericksburg; and WHEREAS, Patty Douglas helped manage the family farm in North Dakota before returning to the Commonwealth in 1955; in 1970, she and her family founded Tartan Angus Farm in Wythe County; and WHEREAS, in 1981, Patty Douglas began a rewarding career as office manager for the Virginia Angus Association; she used her communications skills and farming expertise to gain the trust and respect of Angus breeders throughout the Commonwealth and the United States; and WHEREAS, a loyal and highly professional employee, Patty Douglas handled membership concerns, produced monthly newsletters, and managed finances for the Virginia Angus Association and the annual Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association bull sales, among other organizations and events; and WHEREAS, Patty Douglas earned numerous awards and accolades throughout her career; she was inducted into the Virginia Angus Association Hall of Merit in 1998 and has earned the nickname The First Lady of Virginia Angus; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Patricia Ann Keller Douglas on the occasion of her retirement from the Virginia Angus Association; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Ann Keller Douglas as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her many contributions to Southwest Virginia and farming in the Commonwealth. |
