HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 912
Commending A. C. Powers.

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers, a lieutenant with the Augusta County Sheriff's Office, retired in 2012 after an exemplary career in law enforcement that spanned 25 years; and

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers grew up in Highland County and spent 24 years as a farmer running a beef cattle operation before he applied for a deputy position in the Highland County Sheriff's Office; and

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers spent two years with the Highland County Sheriff's Office and then joined the Augusta County Sheriff's Office as a jailer at the old county jail, briefly served as a road deputy, and then became a county investigator; and

WHEREAS, known for his tireless work ethic, A. C. Powers responded to a variety of calls at all hours and worked long hours to ensure that perpetrators were apprehended; and

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers served as an outstanding role model for other members of the Augusta County Sheriff's Office, sharing his wealth of experience as he helped train a rising generation of law-enforcement professionals; and

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers earned the respect of his colleagues and superiors with his knowledge, passion, and commitment to law enforcement and provided invaluable and faithful service to the residents of Highland and Augusta Counties throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, A. C. Powers was honored for his service at a retirement party at the Holiday Inn Staunton Conference Center that drew a crowd of 300 composed of prosecutors, retired and current law-enforcement officers from Augusta County and surrounding jurisdictions, and many friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend A. C. Powers on his distinguished career in law enforcement on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to A. C. Powers as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration and gratitude for his commitment to public safety.
