HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 907
Commending Ernest Guill.

WHEREAS, Ernest Guill, the dedicated and respected principal of Amherst County High School, retired on June 30, 2010, after a 41-year career in education; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Guill, a 1963 graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, was a standout for the basketball team at Lynchburg College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1969 and master's degree in 1972; and

WHEREAS, in addition to holding a Postgraduate Professional License, Ernest Guill has held memberships in numerous educational and administrative organizations; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Guill began his career at Amherst County High School as a physical education teacher and adopted many other roles including head basketball coach, assistant football coach, golf coach, guidance counselor, and assistant principal; and

WHEREAS, as coach of the Amherst County High School basketball team, Ernest Guill led the Lancers to three Seminole District titles, three Seminole tournament titles, and a Western District tournament championship; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary leader, Ernest Guill served as head principal at Amherst after 33 years as an assistant principal; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Guill will be remembered for the relationships he developed and the positive impact he had on the community, staff, and students of Amherst County High School; and

WHEREAS, during his retirement, Ernest Guill looks forward to spending more time with his three children and eight grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Guill has devoted his professional life to serving the citizens of Amherst County and leaves a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and dedication; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Ernest Guill on his 41 years of outstanding service as an educator; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ernest Guill as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his outstanding public service and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
