WHEREAS, the Honorable Stewart P. Davis, a respected jurist for the 19th Judicial District, retired in 2012 after nearly 31 years of distinguished service; and WHEREAS, a graduate of McLean High School, Stewart Davis earned a bachelor's degree and a law degree from The College of William and Mary; and WHEREAS, following the passing of the Virginia State Bar, Stewart Davis spent a year in Vietnam as a United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps officer; and WHEREAS, upon his return to the United States, Stewart Davis spent four years with the United States Army's Government and Defense Appellate Sections before embarking on a career in private practice in Falls Church that spanned a decade; and WHEREAS, in 1982 Stewart Davis was elected to serve as a judge on the Fairfax County General District Court in the 19th Judicial District; and WHEREAS, during his more than three decades on the bench, Judge Davis presided with great integrity, fairness, and commitment to justice and earned the respect of courtroom staff and attorneys; and WHEREAS, Judge Davis served as chair of the Law Revision Committee of the Judicial Conference for District Courts and on the Committee to Establish Rules for the General District Judges, the Judges Advisory Committee of the Committee on District Courts, and the District Court Forms Committee; and WHEREAS, known and respected for his knowledge of the law and the judicial system, Judge Davis provided invaluable service to his colleagues as president of the Association of District Court Judges of Virginia; and WHEREAS, in his well-deserved retirement, Judge Davis looks forward to spending time with family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Stewart P. Davis on his distinguished service to the 19th Judicial District and the Commonwealth on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Stewart P. Davis as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his commitment to justice and public service. |
