HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 873
Celebrating the life of Dr. George J. Falk.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 18, 2011

WHEREAS, Dr. George J. Falk, a World War II pilot and retired professor from Danville, died on December 31, 2010; and

WHEREAS, a native of Bogalusa, Louisiana, Dr. Falk earned his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University, his master's degree from the University of Virginia, and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, as a proud member of the United States Army Air Corps, Dr. Falk served for three years as a pilot in the World War II European Theater; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Falk retired as a general division manager of the Dan River Mills after working for 23 years as a valued and respected employee; and

WHEREAS, while at Averett University, Dr. Falk coinitiated the Averett University Aviation Program, coached the golf team, taught psychology as an assistant professor, and served as the Director of Guidance and Financial Aid; and

WHEREAS, remembered for the many contributions he made during his 18 years of service at Averett University, Dr. Falk was honored with the creation of the George and Betty Falk-Walker-Morris Endowed Scholarship; and

WHEREAS, a patriotic veteran, Dr. Falk was a member of the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ballard Pruitt Post 647; and

WHEREAS, for 50 consecutive years, Dr. Falk taught a Sunday school class at West Main Baptist Church, where he was also a deacon; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Falk will be fondly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his daughter, Susan; his grandchildren Katherine and Adam; his two great-granddaughters; and the many family members, neighbors, and friends who knew him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dr. George J. Falk, World War II pilot and retired professor; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. George J. Falk as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
