WHEREAS, Disamodha Chandrakirthi Amarasinghe, M.D., a physician from Norfolk known for his humanitarian efforts and civic involvement, died on January 12, 2013; and WHEREAS, Disamodha Chandrakirthi "D. C." Amarasinghe was born and raised in Sri Lanka and relocated to the United States when he was 28; and WHEREAS, after completing his medical training, D. C. Amarasinghe practiced medicine in the Tidewater area and took an active role in civic affairs through involvement with various organizations; and WHEREAS, when the residents of his home country faced devastating hardship after a tsunami struck, D. C. Amarasinghe organized a charity drive to provide relief; and WHEREAS, a proud citizen of his adopted country and strong advocate for green energy, D. C. Amarasinghe decided to run for Congressional office in Virginia's Second District as a member of the Green Party; and WHEREAS, a man of science, D. C. Amarasinghe wished to advance human knowledge and thoughtfully and generously allowed for the donations of his organs for cancer research upon his passing; and WHEREAS, a devoted family man, D. C. Amarasinghe will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Narlie; children, Chandra, Kariya, Juliya, Bonika, Nicole, and David, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and former patients; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Disamodha Chandrakirthi Amarasinghe, M.D.; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Disamodha Chandrakirthi Amarasinghe, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
