HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 760
Celebrating the life of Timothy Wayne Pigg.

WHEREAS, Timothy Wayne Pigg, the beloved second assistant chief of the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department, died on August 8, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Timothy "Tim" Pigg was born on September 23, 1966, to loving parents Philip and the late Thelma Pigg; he was one of two brothers; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of G. W. Carver High School where he was actively involved in 4-H, Tim Pigg received a degree from Danville Community College in drafting and went to work for Buffalo Air Handling as a draftsman; and

WHEREAS, innovative and entrepreneurial, Tim Pigg went into business for himself in 1998; he established Premier Wood Technologies, Inc., producing quality cabinets; and

WHEREAS, Tim Pigg was always interested in serving those around him and began his involvement with firefighting as a firefighter with the Horsepasture Fire Department and then joined the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Tim Pigg enthusiastically served in various capacities at the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department including as captain and second assistant chief where he was known for his willingness to help others; and

WHEREAS, Tim Pigg loved working with his fellow firefighters and the community and worked diligently to ensure the safety of the firefighters and his fellow citizens; one of the last projects he was involved in was designing and securing the funding for a new fire truck for the department; and

WHEREAS, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others, Tim Pigg led by example as an instructor for new firefighters and was actively involved in the department's junior firefighter program; and

WHEREAS, Tim Pigg generously gave of his time and talents coaching soccer, basketball, baseball, and girls' softball through the Amherst County Recreation Department, Dixie Youth, and Amherst County Girls Softball; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Tim Pigg will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Leigh; son, Ryan; daughters, MacKenzie and Morgan; and numerous other friends, family members, and the Amherst community; and

WHEREAS, Tim Pigg leaves behind a legacy of service to his family and community and wonderful memories that his loved ones will cherish; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated firefighter and outstanding community servant, Timothy Wayne Pigg; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Timothy Wayne Pigg as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
