WHEREAS, Doug Bryant, a dedicated law-enforcement officer and the respected, longtime Sheriff of Richmond County, retires in 2015 after nearly four decades of service to the community; and WHEREAS, a lifetime resident of Richmond County, Doug Bryant has been a law-enforcement officer in the Counties of Northumberland and Richmond for more than 38 years; and WHEREAS, Doug Bryant was elected Sheriff of Richmond County in 2004, at a time when the Richmond County Sheriff's Office operated out of a small, three-room office; as sheriff, he proudly oversaw the transition into a new, larger office in the courthouse complex; and WHEREAS, Doug Bryant also helped the Richmond County Sheriff's Office grow from 10 employees to 32 and helped the office acquire cutting-edge technology, tools, and training to better serve and protect the public; and WHEREAS, under Doug Bryant's leadership, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office successfully implemented a new animal control department, hired investigators, and began offering school resource officers; and WHEREAS, to enhance the lives of local senior citizens, Doug Bryant instituted the senior call-in program, where officers call members of the program twice a day to check on their well-being; and WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Doug Bryant will remain in Richmond County and plans to spend more time with his family; and WHEREAS, an exemplar of the professionalism and genuine care for the community shown by law-enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth, Doug Bryant leaves a legacy of excellence to his successor as sheriff; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Doug Bryant on the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of Richmond County; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Bryant as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his leadership and commitment to safeguarding the residents of Richmond County. |
