HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 72
Celebrating the life of Wilbur Ira Reid, Sr.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 15, 2010
Agreed to by the Senate, January 21, 2010

WHEREAS, Wilbur Ira Reid, Sr., of Roanoke, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter, died on November 1, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Reid was born in Roanoke on October 6, 1947, the son of Edith Mae Johnson Reid and the late Paul Ira Reid; and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Reid honorably served his country in the United States Army and was a dedicated employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

WHEREAS, always ready to help his fellow citizens in need, Wilbur Reid gave his time and expertise to many civic organizations over the years; and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Reid faithfully attended Pilgrim Baptist Church, served as a trustee and member of the Male Usher Board, and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, the patriarch of a large, happy family, Wilbur Reid had an engaging personality and was an encouraging mentor to his family members and everyone who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Reid will be fondly remembered for his commitment to his family and his community of Roanoke and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Geraldine; his mother, Edith Reid; his children, Wilbur Jr., Eric, Kelvin, Robin, and Nicole and their families, including 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Wilbur Ira Reid, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wilbur Ira Reid, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
