WHEREAS, Austin Woodall ended his wrestling career at James Wood High School in triumph, winning the Virginia High School League 2010 Group AA 285-pound weight state championship, at the Salem Civic Center; and WHEREAS, as a junior, Austin Woodall was the Region II champion and placed fourth in the Group AA heavyweight division; and WHEREAS, returning with ever more drive and determination his senior year, Austin Woodall had a record of 45 wins to five losses during his regular season, including a close victory at the Willie Walters/Jaye Copp Holiday Tournament hosted by his own James Wood High School in Winchester; and WHEREAS, never intimidated by competition from states far and wide, Austin Woodall brought home the championship title for his weight class from the Max Horz Memorial Invitational at Berkeley Springs High School in West Virginia; and WHEREAS, proving his mettle against opponents closer to home in the Commonwealth, Austin Woodall placed first in the Northwestern District Championship and took second place in the Region II Championship; and WHEREAS, after pinning his fourth and final opponent to claim victory at the Virginia state tournament, Austin Woodall finished off the season with 49 wins, six losses, and 39 pins; and WHEREAS, Austin Woodall received guidance, instruction, and praise from Head Coach Greg Walker, who watched with pride as Austin gained in strength and developed his skills; and WHEREAS, Austin Woodall took great strength from the support of his family and from his friends, his teammates, and the teachers and administrators at James Wood High School; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Austin Woodall for his Virginia High School League 2010 Group AA 285-pound weight state championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Austin Woodall as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for his outstanding high school wrestling career. |
