HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 631
Commending Kyle King.

WHEREAS, Kyle King, of the Grafton High School Clippers in Yorktown, was honored as the Daily Press Boys Cross Country Athlete of the Year on December 22, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Kyle King ended his junior year as the 2009 Virginia High School League Group AA boys' cross country state champion with a finishing time of 16 minutes, one second for five kilometers; and

WHEREAS, returning as captain of the Grafton High School Clippers boys' cross country team his senior year, Kyle King committed to achieving his personal best throughout the season and to winning the championship a second time; and

WHEREAS, devoting himself to long miles of practice, grueling strength-training sessions, and challenging speed trials, Kyle King redesigned his training sessions; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Robert Pierce commended Kyle King for planning and executing effective race strategies while maintaining flexibility as a runner; and

WHEREAS, after placing second in the Boys Invitational at the Maymont Cross Country Festival in September, Kyle King went on to beat his 2009 championship time at the Albemarle Invitational, with a first place finishing time of 15 minutes, 37.21 seconds for five kilometers; and

WHEREAS, throughout the 2010 boys' cross country season, Kyle King led the pack and continued to shave seconds from his time; and

WHEREAS, in the culmination of months of hard work, Kyle King successfully defended his title, capturing the 2010 Virginia High School League Group AA boys' cross country state championship with an astonishing finishing time of 15 minutes, 21 seconds for five kilometers; and

WHEREAS, Kyle King's cross country achievements are attributable not only to his self-discipline, hard work, and dedication, but also to the support of his family, his coaches and teammates, and the students and faculty at Grafton High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Kyle King as the Daily Press Boys Cross Country Athlete of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kyle King as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration of his outstanding high school cross country career and best wishes for continued success in his future endeavors.
