WHEREAS, Rabbi Bruce Aft is celebrating his 18th anniversary as a clergy member at Adat Reyim Congregation in Springfield, a small, yet growing Jewish house of worship in Virginia; and WHEREAS, a graduate of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, Rabbi Aft has served as Senior Rabbi at Adat Reyim Congregation since 1991, inspiring and positively affecting the lives of many throughout the community; among his top priorities throughout the years has been educating young people; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Aft has been actively affiliated with the March of the Living since 1992, B'nai B'rith Youth Organization since 1985, and the UJA/Jewish Federation of Greater Washington since 1993; and WHEREAS, through his compassionate guidance, Rabbi Aft has led Adat Reyim Congregation to deepen its commitment to improving the lives of those in need both within and outside his own congregation; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Aft is currently the Rabbinic Advisor of the George Mason University Community Hillel Board and has served as past president of the Board of Jewish Education of Greater Washington and chair of the board of Operation Understanding D.C.; and WHEREAS, since September 11, 2001, Rabbi Aft has dedicated himself to developing teen dialogue groups through George Mason University's Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Aft teaches his congregation that being a member of a synagogue enables individuals to find a worship experience, an educational event, or social interaction to enrich one's life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Rabbi Bruce Aft on the occasion of his 18th anniversary as a clergy member at Adat Reyim Congregation; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rabbi Bruce Aft as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for his commitment to his faith and congregation. |
