WHEREAS, John H. Hodges, the admired longtime Hanover County Deputy County Administrator for Community Development, retired on December 31, 2010; and WHEREAS, John Hodges received a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Virginia and was also a graduate of the Certified Planning Commission Program; he first worked as a project manager for a planning consulting firm; and WHEREAS, John Hodges began his outstanding career with Hanover County in 1980 as the county's first Project Manager for Growth Management before becoming Director of Planning from 1982 to 1998; and WHEREAS, as Director of Planning, John Hodges managed the development of Hanover County's unique "phasing" system, in which growth is tied to the availability of public utilities; and WHEREAS, respected for his strong leadership skills, John Hodges was appointed Deputy County Administrator in 1998, with oversight over the Departments of Planning, Public Utilities, Public Works, Building Inspections, and Parks and Recreation; and WHEREAS, an excellent administrator, John Hodges worked diligently throughout his career to ensure that Hanover County residents received the best possible services; and WHEREAS, a dedicated public servant, John Hodges was instrumental in the growth and development of Hanover County for the past three decades, helping to make it a premier place to live and work; and WHEREAS, respected by his colleagues and committed to his profession, John Hodges was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, and the Virginia Citizens' Planning Association; and WHEREAS, John Hodges has been supported in all his endeavors by his loving family, including wife, Vandi, and sons, Ames and Ben, and their families; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend John H. Hodges for his exemplary service to Hanover County on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John H. Hodges as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for his commitment to Hanover County and best wishes in his future endeavors. |
