WHEREAS, in 2016, Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church in Chester celebrates its 60th anniversary of spiritual leadership, joyful worship, and service to others; and WHEREAS, Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church was founded on February 15, 1956, and held its first service the following Sunday, February 19, 1956, at a log church on Point of Rocks Road; and WHEREAS, the newly formed congregation purchased the log building and worshipped there for three years; despite enlarging the church, the congregation soon outgrew it, and in 1959, a new home for Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church was completed; and WHEREAS, today, Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church, which fronts East Hundred Road and has expanded its facility to accommodate continued growth, is home to a vibrant ministry that works to meet the spiritual and physical needs of all people; and WHEREAS, since its earliest years, Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church has drawn strength from many groups within the congregation: the United Methodist Women, a youth fellowship, acolyte classes, and the Methodist Men's club are actively involved in maintaining and improving the facility and serving the community; and WHEREAS, many other groups also meet at Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church for fellowship and growth, including Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, a Cub Scout pack, a singles group, and other programs; the church has also been home to a preschool since 1984�serving a vital need in the community; and WHEREAS, since it began, music has been central to Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church, and today a variety of choirs greatly contribute to the worship experience; and WHEREAS, and in the last 60 years, the members of Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church have proclaimed the Gospel and served the community through a variety of ministries, music, and outreach efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Beth Anderson, pastor of Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for its many years of service to the region. |
