WHEREAS, the West Potomac High School boys' basketball team of Mount Vernon won the Virginia High School League Conference 7 tournament championship on February 21, 2016; and WHEREAS, the West Potomac High School Wolverines defeated the top-seeded West Springfield High School Spartans 61 - 57 at the Conference 7 tournament final, which was held at South County High School in Fairfax County; and WHEREAS, the West Potomac High School Wolverines overcame a 3 - 6 start to the season to win 10 of 12 games and enter the conference tournament as the number two seed; and WHEREAS, junior guard Khalil Williams Diggins led the West Potomac High School Wolverines with 19 points and was named a first-team all-conference selection and Most Valuable Player of the conference tournament; and WHEREAS, with the conference tournament win, the West Potomac High School Wolverines advanced to the Virginia High School League Group 6A North region tournament; and WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the hard work and determination of all of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the energetic support of the entire West Potomac High School community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the West Potomac High School boys' basketball team on winning the Virginia High School League Conference 7 tournament championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Houston III, head coach of the West Potomac High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for the future. |
