WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School softball team earned the school's first state title in June 2015 by winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship; and WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers finished the season with an impressive 26 - 1 record and the first trip to a state final in the consolidated high school's 46-year history; and WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers defeated the Woodgrove High School Wolverines by a score of 1 - 0 in the state championship final, held at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium in Lynchburg; and WHEREAS, during the state championship, Carroll County High School's pitcher, Sydney Nester, struck out 13 opposing batters, and Jeannie Utt scored the game's only run in the fifth inning; and WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of all of the student-athletes, the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Carroll County High School community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Carroll County High School softball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship in 2015; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ricky Nester, head coach of the Carroll County High School softball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's accomplishments and best wishes for the future. |
