HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 474

Commending the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship at Virginia Commonwealth University's Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond on March 7, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School Red Devils defeated the Auburn High School Eagles of Riner by a score of 65–59 to bring home the program's second consecutive state championship title and to finish the season with an impressive 26–2 record; and
WHEREAS, junior forward Troy Henderson, who set a Lancaster High School career scoring record this past season after scoring more than 26 points per game, led the Lancaster Red Devils in the championship contest with 30 points; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of their achievements, Troy Henderson, Lamar Mattocks, and Daveon Smith were named to the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region 1A first team, while head coach Dwayne Pinn was honored as VHSL Region 1A coach of the year; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Lancaster Red Devils are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Lancaster High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dwayne Pinn, head coach of the Lancaster High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
