WHEREAS, the 2009 Grafton High School baseball team is commended for its outstanding season that included winning the Bay Rivers District Tournament title and advancing to the state quarterfinals; and WHEREAS, the Grafton Clippers ended an outstanding regular season (15 - 5) tied for 2nd place in the Bay Rivers District; and WHEREAS, in an exciting game, the Grafton baseball team defeated the previously unbeaten Poquoson High School team (10 - 8) to take home its first district title and advance to the regional playoffs; and WHEREAS, the team members demonstrated their determination and fierce competitive streak during the regional playoff games, including a 9-run inning to come back from a 3 - 1 deficit in one game; and WHEREAS, the Grafton Clippers went on to earn Region 1 Runner-up honors and advance to the state quarterfinals; and WHEREAS, the entire team worked hard and made significant contributions throughout the season and the tournament games, with several players earning various honors; and WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2009 Clippers is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach John Hammons and his staff; and the support of the parents, student body, and faculty and leadership of Grafton High School; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the baseball team from Grafton High School on its outstanding 2009 season; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach John Hammons as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2009 Grafton High School baseball team. |
