HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 398
Commending Freedom High School.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2016
Agreed to by the Senate, March 10, 2016

WHEREAS, in 2016, Freedom High School will host its class prom as a charitable event, with all ticket sales and other donations benefiting children living with pediatric cancer; and

WHEREAS, at the end of the 2014 - 2015 academic year, Freedom High School announced that all fundraising efforts for the 2015 - 2016 academic year would be focused on pediatric cancer, and the junior and senior class councils decided to align the class prom with this effort; and

WHEREAS, the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport hotel, where the Freedom High School prom has been held in the past, generously refunded the school's deposit, and students secured permission to host the prom in the school gym; and

WHEREAS, teachers and staff of Freedom High School, who usually serve as chaperones, will volunteer as waiters, kitchen staff, photographers, and valets; and

WHEREAS, Freedom High School students worked with Whole Foods Market to procure free food for the event and contacted the Washington Redskins and iHeartRadio to raise awareness of the event and request giveaway items to increase donations; and

WHEREAS, members of the community can contribute directly to the charitable event by making a donation in any senior class member's name; the senior boy and girl who earn the most donations will be named prom king and queen; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Freedom High School for its efforts to raise money for pediatric cancer research and treatment through a charitable prom; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Fulton, principal of Freedom High School, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the school community's generosity and support for the fight against pediatric cancer.
